USJ-R Prevails Over UV in Nestea Beach Volleyball

The USJ-R Jaguars, Johnrey Sasing and Joseph Carmel Alguno, are leading in the Men’s division of the 10th Nestea Beach Volleyball Visayas qualifying round by trashing the UV Lancers spikers 25-14, yesterday at De La Salle Greenhills in Manila in their bid for a second straight finals ticket to Boracay on May 4, 2006.

The veterans combined for 11 kills and five aces with sole intention to top the qualifying round for the Visayas region.

The USJ-R spikers, who have been seeded into the second round, needed only to beat University of Cebu (UC) late yesterday to qualify into the quarterfinals today. The same pair lost to College of St. Benilde in the national finals last year. This time around, they hope they will get through the finals and play the same opponents to get revenge.

Yaw-Yan Classes This Summer

Anyone who is interested in this hybrid martial art called Yaw-Yan may now get to know the sport better this summer in Cebu. Yaw-Yan is a portmanteau for its Tagalog origin that best describes the sport,Sayaw ng Kamatayan or Dance of Death owing to its unique body movement and deadly strikes and kicks involved in the sport.

Yaw-Yan sounds Chinese, the movements slightly resemble that of Thai-Boxing and Korea’s Tae-kwon-do but the origin is strictly Filipino. Yaw-Yan is considered as the Philippine’s most lethal martial art. Fighters employ lethal kicks that may send their opponents to canvass physically incapacitated.
