More malnourished children in four barangays in San Fernando, Cebu are now covered by a feeding program launched by two industrial firms in the municipality as part of their joint Social Development Management Program (SDMP).

Mandaue City: Cebu’s new economic driver

Mandaue city has always been the convergence spot for trade, even before the coming of the Spaniards. During the Spanish era, the first drydocking facility was established in what is now called Barangay Tipolo.

From that very site will soon emerge the cebu international convention center where 17 heads of state from the Asean region and their partner nations will convene for the 12th Asean Summit this coming December 11-14, 2006.

Invest Cebu!


The Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry was in Manila at the Hotel InterContinental to launch the Cebu Business Month 2006. Francis Monera, president of the Cebu chamber and Wilson Ng, chairman of the Cebu business Month lead the group. The theme of CBM2006 was Invest Cebu and together with over 20 officers of Cebu chamber were Tomas Osmena, Cebu City Mayor, and Gwendolyn Garcia, Cebu Provincial Governor. Davide is Ambassador to the United Nations

Cebuano great retired Chief Justice Hilario Davide Jr. was appointed new ambassador to the United Nations in New York. His appointment, however, from the President still needs confirmation from the Commission on Appointments to make it legally official which sees no hindrance.

The Commission on Appointments is made up of 13 senators with the Senate President, currently Franklin Drilon, automatically becoming the CA chairman and 12 members of the House.

‘Semana Santa’ in Cebu

Holy Week is Christendom’s holiest week of the year. Good Friday and Easter Sunday are the holiest days.

In Cebu, like the rest of the Philippines and other Christian countries, Semana Santa is devoted to days of solemn services in churches and homes alike. Believers are encouraged to follow in their prayers with readings from the Gospel the account of each of the actions from the time of the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday to the crucifixion and death of Jesus on Good Friday and the resurrection on Easter Sunday. This tradition has been passed on from generation to generation for hundreds of years since the Spanish colonization of the Philippines.

Inter-Club Football in Cebu

Football in Cebu has been active for years albeit the dwindling popularity of the sport in other parts of the Philippines. There are more than 20 active clubs in Cebu who are mostly varsities from local schools and universities in cities and towns around the province. Many of which have been national champions.

On April 28 until May 4, Cebu City will get to host another exciting football extravaganza as the Cebu Inter-Club Football Tournament unfolds in various playing venues spread across the metro. The tournament which is organized by the Cebu Amateur Football Club has already attracted 12 teams from outside Cebu. The out-of-towners include teams from Negros Occidental, Iloilo, Davao, Cagayan de Oro, and Dumaguete City.
