Mandaue honors mountaineers

It surely wasn’t an ordinary celebration of the country’s Independence Day yesterday at Mandaue City.

After all, two mountaineers who have become household names in the country were with them during the program commemorating the 108th Independence Day.

Heradio “Leo” Oracion and Erwin “Pastor” Emata, the first two Filipinos to reach the summit of Mt. Everest, the highest mountain in the world, were with other members of the First Philippine Mt. Everest Expedition Team at the Mandaue City Hall grounds.

Oracion, a native of Lucban, Quezon but a resident of Barangay Cubacub, was given a P25,000 cash incentive and a resolution of the City Council congratulating him on his feat.
