President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will put the spotlight on the gains of her government and the challenges her leadership had hurdled when the Philippines hosts the 12th summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in Cebu City this December.

Arroyo, who was here Wednesday evening to grace the 10th anniversary of the Bishop-Ulama’s Conference (BUC), drumbeat “a new Philippines” as a goal by her administration, which she said would be among the highlights of the country’s message to other ASEAN leaders during the December 11-14 summit.

THE HEADS of state of Japan and China will visit the Philippines before and after the 12th ASEAN Summit respectively, according to a copy of the tentative schedules of the visits obtained by INQ7.net Wednesday.

Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s arrival in Manila is set on the evening of December 8, according to the information sheet.

The following day, after laying a wreath at the Rizal Monument, Abe is expected to sign several bilateral agreements with President Gloria
Macapagal-Arroyo, among them a treaty on taxation, it said. He is scheduled to leave for Cebu on December 10.
the tentative schedule of Premier Wen Jiabao of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China starts on the evening of
December 13 with the signing of bilateral agreements, according to the same information sheet said.

ASEAN Summit Advisory Guide

During the Cebu ASEAN Summit on Dec 11 to 14, there will be stricter policy to insure smooth traffic flow as well as security for the delegates.  Some roads will be closed for security reasons to allow important dignitaries to pass.  The following guidelines has been issued:
1. All employees are advised to bring their company IDs at all times when in transit to and from the office.

2. No parking of cars along the road. All cars within the company premises will be inspected by the road security prior to road closures.

4. Absolutely no passage during road closures. Only Asean delegates are allowed to pass through the Asean Route.

5. All cars & motorcycle owners (including company vehicles) are advised to provide a copy of their OR/CR to be allowed passage in cases of unscheduled road
closures due to delayed convoys (Employees who ride on mountain bikes will not be allowed to enter).

6. Employees who decide to walk during road closures are not allowed to bring backpacks and should always bring their company IDs.

7. Free passage of all cars and other modes of transportation during reopening of roads.

8. For commuters, refer to the latest PUJ rerouting advisory as announced by CITOM (newspaper ads)

The mall to be called “Ciudad” will vibrantly mix culture, entertainment, retail, dining, and architecture, said consortium investors of the P1.2-billion project.

Cebuanos are being asked to keep their cool during the dry run for the 12th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit on Friday, December 1, when a 29-kilomter road stretch will be closed twice – once in the morning and again in the afternoon.

Senior Superintendent Lani-O Nerez, Central Visayas police deputy director for operations, said the ASEAN ceremonial route that covers nine major streets in the cities of Cebu, Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu will be closed from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.

he Chinese General Chamber of Commerce (CGCC) in Hong Kong, one of the biggest business groups in the Asia-Pacific region, will hold its 10th World Chinese Entrepreneur Convention (WCEC) in 2009 either in Cebu or Manila.

Ian Fok Chun Wan, president of CGCC in Hong Kong, informed President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo during a courtesy call in Malacañang this morning that CGCC has chosen the Philippines as the venue of the association’s convention in 2009.

The opening ceremony for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) leaders’ summit on December 10 will be held at the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC).

Ambassador Marciano Paynor, head of the Philippine National Organizing Committee (NOC) for the Asean summit, made this announcement after the last joint meeting of the NOC and the Cebu Organizing Committee Wednesday.

About 90 to 98 meetings will be held in Cebu from Dec. 6 to Dec. 13 but they are still finalizing the venues, the ambassador said.
