Local Business Leaders Promote Cebu During ASEAN

Cebu’s local business sector will push the province as an ideal investment destination in the upcoming Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Business and Investment Summit this December.

Francis Monera, president of the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), said local business leaders are working together to come up with several activities for the summit that would highlight the Cebu agenda.

Make no mistake; Monique Lhuillier may bear the name of one of Cebu’s most notable families, but this resident American with a French surname and a Spanish heritage is very much a global brand name. Lhuillier, a name famous for bridal gowns for the likes of Britney Spears, Natalie Imbruglia and Christine Baumgartner, will soon branch into merchandise. Expect Lhuillier china, fragrances and handbags. “At some point, we want to do shoes as well,” reveals Tom Bugabee, chief executive officer and cofounder of Monique Lhuillier Inc., who is also the designer’s husband.

Sun.Star Manila - Asean moves towards creation of single market

The Asean Business and Investment Summit is organized by the Asean Business Advisory Council, a 30-member council of eminent business persons, with three appointed by each leader to coordinate and advise on economic integration.

This year the business and investment summit will be held in Cebu from December 7 to 10 concurrently with the opening phase of the 12th Asean Summit, which runs from December 6 to 14. This year also, at the initiative of the Philippines, the meeting will not be confined to Asean business and government leaders but is being thrown open globally to provide a voice to all stakeholders within the business sector.
