DOH prepares for Health and Safety Issues for ASEAN Summit Delegates

The Department of Health (DoH) has taken measures to guard against possible health-related emergencies that might arise during the 12th ASEAN Summit in this city from Dec. 11-13.Dr. Expedito A. Medalla, DoH-7 Health Emergency Management Staff Coordinator, said all the City Health Offices (CHOs) in Cebu province’s five cities have been instructed to step up training of their health staff on medical and emergency responses in time for the summit. The DoH will deploy a total of 34 ambulances in all key points during the summit which will be held on Dec. 11 to 13 in various places in the city.

More neophyte policemen here were dispatched to Cebu City on Friday to beef up the security forces in preparation for the 12th ASEAN Summit this December.Camp Delgado’s Regional Intelligence and Investigation Division (RIID) chief Supt. Cornelio Defensor said it was the third batch of cops sent off by Camp Delgado to Cebu City since last month.
The cops, he said, are members of the Civil Disturbance Management team to be deployed in strategic areas during the ASEAN summit.
The first group composed of 113 cops arrived in Cebu last October. Few weeks later, another batch of 330 cops who were trained in internal security operations (ISO) were also sent.

Foreign and local journalists, including the delegates, will savor numerous Filipino recipes with distinct regional flavors during the 12th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit here on Dec. 11-13.The Manila-based catering service Via Mare, chosen to cater at the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC) during the summit, said the buffet table will feature a variety of Filipino dishes, including native delicacies to further promote the country’s food products.
“The menu will be basically Filipino because we want the delegates and the foreign media to experience the real taste of Filipino dishes,” said Diane Rosales, operations manager of Via Mare.

Sunday, November 26th, 2006Malacañan has exempted the business sector in Cebu from a four-day holiday declaration in view of the 12th Association of Southeast Asian Nations Summit next month, DZMM reported Friday.ABS-CBN correspondent Jun Perez reported that according to Presidential Proclamation 1032-A signed by Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita, December 11 to 14 will be a special holiday in the cities of Cebu, Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu during the ASEAN Summit.

Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo has named the country’s ambassador to Malaysia, Victoriano Lecaros, as spokesman for the 12th ASEAN Summit to be held next month in Cebu, central Philippines, reported local television network ABS-CBN News Wednesday.
