Balita Organization, Inc - 28 - Korean hair salon eyes Cebu customers

Riding on Asian hairstyle made popular by the Chinese and Korean telenovela craze that hit the country, a Korean hairstyling salon which conquered Manila, is expanding to Cebu.

Tony and Jackey, which specializes in Asian hairstyles and advanced hair treatment technology from Korea, opened the doors of its P4-million salon here last week.

Sky Park, branch manager, said they intend to cater to Cebuanos who seek hair care the Korean way.

“We want to reach the market in this side of the country, where people deserve to know how to properly take care of their hair,” he said.

Tony and Jackey, whose owner has reputably established salons in Seoul, Korea first entered the Philippine market in 2001.

Park said the salon managed to successfully thrive in the Philippine market, which he described as “ready for the Korean experience,” establishing itself in Metro Manila namely in Malate and Makati.

With the Philippines chairing the ASEAN Standing Committee, President Arroyo is poised to lead the way toward the region’s economic integration fully centered on people and their well-being, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said.

Explaining this people-centered approach, DFA Assistant Secretary Luis Cruz said the acceleration of ASEAN integration into a regional economic power from its 2020 deadline to an earlier target of 2015 should require similar acceleration in its socio-cultural goals to serve the best interests of all the peoples involved.

Cruz, also the Philippine director-general to the ASEAN, cited the 11th ASEAN Summit’s theme “One Caring and Sharing Community” as indicative of this people-centered pursuit and approach espoused by Mrs. Arroyo as basis for a meaningful regional integration.

Part of this socio-cultural thrust is bridging the development gaps among ASEAN countries through community and private sector participation, capacity building, technology sharing, health, education and exchange of information on best practices in various fields of human concern.

Foreign and domestic tourist arrivals in Central Visayas increased by 19 percent to 1.3 million visitors during the first 10 months of the year, according to a Department of Tourism (DoT) official.

DoT Central Visayas Director Patria Aurora Roa said the number showed that Central Visayas has remained the top tourist destination in the country, validating an earlier statement by Tourism Secretary Ace Durano.

“Region 7 is still the top destination of tourists. In Cebu, we get the biggest share of the tourism arrivals both domestic and foreign. Take note, we already have increased by 18.74 percent for the last 10 months and we still have to collate the data for November and December, a peak season for tourists,” she said.

Cebu, with over one million foreign and domestic visitors, got the bulk of the arrivals, Roa pointed out.
