Summer vacation in Boracay? Think Malapascua
Tuesday, February 27th, 2007
Malapascua is described by the lonely planet as “The Thinking Man’s Boracay” and is the next greatest beach discovery after Boracay. It is like Boracay 5 /10 years ago or I would describe it as Boracay less the nightlife (very quiet at night!) . The sand is sugary fine and the waters are calm such that you can imagine you have a large swimming pool that you can swim for miles. Malapascua is a good thing to do adventure in time for the summer season and specially holy week which is the peak season for these beaches.
Malapascua, is an island off the northern tip of Cebu Province, in the Philippines. It’s about 130 kms. (80 mi.) from the City of Cebu to Maya and about 30 mins. pumpboat ride, an outriggered boat to the island. Electricity and transportation in the island is scarce.
The island has long been visited by European tourist mostly from Switzerland and Germany, since it was being promoted by tourist who have been to the island. It was just recently that many local tourist, myself included, who have also visited this Island paradise.
Malapascua offers a crystal clear waters, white sand, fresh catch and best of all, the tranquility that the island has to offer. Dive spots are numerous around Malapascua with some World War II wrekage and rich marine life.
