Int’l fastfood eyes bigger sales growth

AN international fastfood chain wants to increase its revenues by 30 percent after moving to its new location following a three-month closure.

Frankie Lee, Kenny Rogers Roasters franchisee under the Golden Bauhinia Food Management Corp., said growth in revenues will be attributed to the fastfood chain’s new site on the third level of Ayala Center Cebu, which is expected to draw more customers in the area.

PAL records Profit for 3rd year in a Row

Philippine Airlines Books Record Year Profit of US$140 MLN

Philippine Airlines (PAL) on Thursday reported a net income of US$140.3 million for its financial year ending March 31, 2007, the largest profit in its 66-year history and an affirmation of the flag carrier’s robust financial health eight years into its restructuring program.

In a report with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), PAL said the surplus was a “significant improvement” over the preceding fiscal year’s profit of US$22.8 million - a more-than-six-fold jump.

Civil service exam set in Bohol

The Civil Service Commission in Central Visayas (CSC-7) announced the conduct of the Career Service Examination Paper and Pencil Test (CSE-PPT) professional and sub-professional levels on July 22 in Tagbilaran City, Bohol.

But Cebu City remains as the regular testing center.

Applicants to the examination must be Filipino citizens, at least 18 years old, of good moral character, have no criminal record, have not been discharged from military service or dismissed from any civilian position in the government, have not taken the same level of CS examination in less than three months and have not failed the same examination four times.

Filipino software developer bags deal with Microsoft

A Philippine software developer has bagged a deal to develop an instant messaging and short messaging system (SMS) service for Microsoft, executives told INQUIRER.net.

Wilfredo dela Cruz, president of D3 Systems, said a visit by a Microsoft executive from Redmond, Washington has blossomed into a sweet deal for the company that has been attracting partners from the region.

“We’ve developed a system for Microsoft,” said Dela Cruz in an interview here. D3 Systems Inc. was among the local companies that joined the CommunicAsia 2007, the biggest telecommunications event in Asia Pacific.

Cebu Pacific - Cebu Pacific orders up to 14 brand new ATR72-500 aircraft

Gokongwei owned airline, Cebu Pacific (CEB) will expand its fleet further with the acquisition of up to 14 ATR72-500 aircraft worth more than US$ 250 million.

Lance Gokongwei, CEB President and CEO explained that the move to further expand its fleet with the ATR fleet is a continued manifestation of CEB’s commitment to bring air travel closer to more Filipinos and to bring them to new destinations which CEB cannot operate to at the moment due to runway length and strength limitations.

“We are buying up to 14 brand new ATR 72-500 aircraft for our continued expansion. The order is made up of 6 firm orders, with an additional 8 options. The first 2 ATR72 aircraft are expected to arrive in early 2008 and the complete delivery is expected by 2013.” Gokongwei explained.

Phiippine visitors reached 1 million in 4 months

Philippines Records 7.1 PCT Rise in Jan-April Visitor Arrivals

Visitor arrivals for the first four months this year reached the one million mark, a 7.1 per cent increase over last year, the Philippine Department of Tourism (DoT) reported.

Records show January had the biggest volume of tourist arrivals with 272,525 while March recorded the highest growth of 15.1 per cent.

ASEAN Tourism Congress opens today at CICC

Around 300 participants including at least 30 delegations from several countries in Asia are expected to join today’s opening of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Tourism Congress at the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC).

CCCI launches Shop Cebu
