Internet service near Magellellan’s Cross by July

    A PUBLIC Internet connection will be available this July in the vicinity of Cebu City Hall and Magellan’s Cross. The codification of the city ordinances will also be ready by then.

The Internet service is intended for tourists and visitors.

Cebu is 20th in most livable in RP list

    AFTER being named one of the Top 10 Asian Cities of the Future, Cebu City made it to the top 20 list of “Best Places to Live” in the country.

But business magazine MoneySense ranked Cebu City only as the 20th city in the list, with the cities of Bacolod, Makati, Davao, Marikina and Iloilo being named the top five.Continue reading…

Remains, artifacts found in Boljoon

    EVIDENCE of pre-Spanish trade and industry in Cebu were found in Boljoon town, right in front of the Nuestra Senora Virgen del Patrocinio Parish Church.

Different kinds of artifacts and nine burials were found at the third archaeological excavation by the Department of Sociology and Anthropology of the University of San Carlos.

The recent excavation, done over a period of one month, was 60 to 70 centimeters deep. More…

Cebu has 3.85M

    THERE are now 3.85 million people in Cebu Province, according to the 2007 census by the National Statistics Office (NSO).

The figure makes Cebu the largest province in terms of population.

But excluding population figures for the highly-urbanized cities of Cebu, Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue, Cebu Province’s population is 2,439,065 or a growth of only 1.68 percent. Not counting the highly-urbanized cities, Cebu would rank fifth among provinces in terms of population size and Cavite, with 2.66 million, would rank first. Continue…

Cebu to mark ‘2nd feast’ of Sto Niño

    Residents of Cebu City will mark the feast of the Santo Niño (Christ Child) a second time this year with the feast of “Kaplag” on April 28.

The Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) said “Kaplag” commemorates the discovery of the image of the Sto. Niño in a nipa hut in Cebu on April 28, 1565.

Cebu signs new twin city programs in Taipei and Kuala Lumpur

    Skalleagues from Taipei, Kuala Lumpur, Makati, Manila, Bacolod and Davao joined Skal International Cebu as they celebrated their 18th anniversary recently in Cebu City.

During the three-day event, Skal Asian Area president Earl Wieman, Skal Kuala Lumpur President Ivo Nekvapil and Skal Cebu President Charles Lim signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for a twinning program of their Skal clubs.

Airline adds 2 new destinations

    WITH Cebu’s capacity to draw more tourists, an airline is launching two more routes to serve the growing demand of travelers.

Taking a cue from over 250,000 Filipino arrivals in Macau, Cebu Pacific (CEB) inaugurated last Saturday a new direct flight from Cebu to Macau, making it the only airline to offer a non-stop air travel for the Cebu-Macau route.

Candice Iyog, CEB vice president for marketing and product, said the new offering increases the airline’s number of international flights to 12, with six from Cebu. More…
