The construction of a new beach villa in Tuburan, Cebu is viewed as a “job generator” for the town’s residents, a public official said Monday.

Vice Mayor Rose Marie Suezo said the presence of the Apalan Beach Villas will enable jobless locals to find another way of providing for the needs of their families.

“Although there were no specific conversations with the developers on the terms of giving jobs to the locals, I am hopeful that they (developers) will help us,” Suezo told Cebu Daily News.

Summertime is Coming in Bantayan

Thursday, March 15th, 2007

Summer must have started here in the Philippines. Welcome sunshine!

Summer time is here and for sure beaches and vacations always come to mind during these times. Bantayan is an option for those who find Boracay too expensive or too far. Though, I personally haven’t been to Bantayan yet, I have been to Boracay though for a couple of times. But this place sure is in my wish list of places to visit.

As what I have heard Bantayan is almost like Boracay less the commercialized atmosphere. Same powdery, white sand beaches, crystal clear waters which is ideal for snorkelling or diving. There are also caves and dive spots to visit, just hire a boat to get you to the destinations you wish to visit.

By land, one can take the two-hour bus ride from the northern bus terminal in Cebu City up to San Remigo or drive your own vehicle. From there, inter-island ferries to Santa Fe in Bantayan Island and to Malapascua are available. For those who have their own vehicles the ferry charge is somewhere around P1,000++. There is also a night ferry from Cebu City to Sta. Fe; travel time is about nine hours.

Saudi royal family to invest in Bohol resort - INQUIRER.net, Philippine News for Filipinos

Saudi Arabia’s royal family is buying up a chunk of Panglao Island in Bohol, where they intend to put up a six-star resort.

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo herself disclosed the news in a speech at the Bohol Youth Day celebration on Saturday at the Carlos P. Garcia Sports Complex here where she also rallied support for Team Unity senatorial bets.

The President made the disclosure to prove “the Philippines has regained world confidence because of its growing economy and stabilizing politics.”

Ms Arroyo said the Saudi Arabian royal family, through its Kingdom Holdings, expressed their intention to invest $150 million in Panglao through a tie-up with Ayala Land.

Hilutungan, a real paradise!

Thursday, March 8th, 2007

Hilutungan Island, Cordova, Cebu, the Philippines.

Hilutungan is the island and sun beach resort, an affiliate of Cordova Reef in the main island. Across this island, a little further north is the Nalusuan Island which also has its fish sanctuary but mostly of those aquarium-type small colorful fishes. Hilutungan’s sanctuary, which I like most, is the one facing Cordova and has more variety with those meter long fishes. it is a lonely island with accommodating people and wide stretches of shifting sugar-fine white sand. when we came across  here last year, i reallty love to stay for a long time.

It is a sun-and-sea destinations every summer (March-May) in Cebu: the island of Hilutungan. The choice is not really for the resort above, which is ridiculously expensive, but for its nearby marine sanctuary where teeming colorful fishes of various sizes literally feed off your hands while snorkelling (bring bread of course). Pumpboat boats could be rented from takeoff points in Mactan between $20-50 for the entire day. Diving or snorkelling fee at the sanctuary is about $1 and is for the island funds and the Dept of Envrionment and Natural Resources which maintain the fabulous marine sanctuary.

It is a real paradise!

Welcome to El Salvador!

Monday, March 5th, 2007

If u want a quick getaway from the fastlane, pack up your bags and relax. Just an hour away from the city, Danao City offers a unique hideaway which will surely relax your weary mind.

El Salvador has been around for quite a while now. However, major improvements weren’t started until a few years ago (maybe 2004 or 2005). El Salvador used to have these small Wigwam Huts (Php400). Now, bigger and better rooms take the place of these “roofed beds”.

LOCATED in Sabang, Danao City, Elsalvador Resort is just an hour, ride away from the hustle-and-blustle pace of Cebu City. This resort is a perfect place for family, friends or lovers on a leisure trip. Elsalvador Resort has 29 accommodation units equipped with great amenities.

To complement its excellent facilities, the resort also has a warm and friendly staff. Indeed, Elsalvador offers a lifestyle partaking of the marvels of nature and the splendor of the timeless gifts of the earth.

“Elsalvador is the best place for rest and recreation,” says resort manager Iris Barrameda, adding, that the resort will be added 16 suite rooms to cater to all clients especially during the summer season. “For P980 to P1, 980 you can already spend a wonderful holiday at Elsalvador Resort.”

Summer vacation in Boracay? Think Malapascua

Tuesday, February 27th, 2007

Malapascua is described by the lonely planet as “The Thinking Man’s Boracay” and is the next greatest beach discovery after Boracay. It is like Boracay 5 /10 years ago or I would describe it as Boracay less the nightlife (very quiet at night!) . The sand is sugary fine and the waters are calm such that you can imagine you have a large swimming pool that you can swim for miles. Malapascua  is a good thing to do adventure in time for the summer season and specially holy week which is the peak season for these beaches.

Malapascua, is an island off the northern tip of Cebu Province, in the Philippines. It’s about 130 kms. (80 mi.) from the City of Cebu to Maya and about 30 mins. pumpboat ride, an outriggered boat to the island. Electricity and transportation in the island is scarce.

The island has long been visited by European tourist mostly from Switzerland and Germany, since it was being promoted by tourist who have been to the island. It was just recently that many local tourist, myself included, who have also visited this Island paradise.

Malapascua offers a crystal clear waters, white sand, fresh catch and best of all, the tranquility that the island has to offer. Dive spots are numerous around Malapascua with some World War II wrekage and rich marine life.
