Book to promote towns, sights in Cebu globally

Saturday, December 15th, 2007
BOOK that showcases images of the best of Cebu was launched yesterday by a guest whose mid-morning visit required tighter-than-usual security at the SM City’s North Wing: President Arroyo.

The President, who signed a copy of the book, told publisher Marissa Fernan that it contained images of Cebu that she has never seen before.

“Cebu: Pride of Place” is a collection of 349 images of the things and places Cebu is known for, chosen from about 12,000 pictures shot by Billy Mondoñedo. SunStar

Kawasan, Beautiful as Always!

Thursday, February 22nd, 2007

Kawasan Falls
Badian, SouthWestern Cebu, the Philippines

Now tell me, is this beautiful or what? Kawasan is definitely a must-see place here in Cebu..it’s about 2-2.5 hrs from the city by vehicle  You can also go hiking from Osmeña Peak to Kawasan falls which can take about 4-6 hrs. For me, it’s the best place to unwind here in Cebu. When you get to Badian which is located on the southern part of Cebu island, you will have to hike some 20-25minutes before reaching the first falls. You’ll be amazed when you get there and I’m very sure after the long walk you would want to go for a dip immediately.

Some 5-10 minutes treak going up above the first falls, you’d be able to reach the other 3 sub-falls and also the source.  See more of Kawasan Falls pics here..

Beautiful as always… i hope they can really preserve this place.

Success in the Souvenirs

Wednesday, August 9th, 2006

jayMore often than not, when we speak of a successful man, we think of someone overwhelming, sometimes even intimidating. That man is perceived to be someone who wields power over his peers, and exhibits an almost ruthless determination to achieve what he wants.

Yet, Jonathan Jay Chiongbian Aldeguer, currently the president of the Aldeguer Group of Companies, is miles away from that image. A TOYM awardee at the age of 27, Aldeguer actually has every right to be that intimidating, overpowering man. But he’s not. His success was brought about by his unwavering optimism about his country, unbelievable determination, and a highly creative mind, tempered with a realistic outlook in life.

Aldeguer (yes, a nephew of the ’70s dance icons Terry and Lally Aldeguer) recalls his beginnings as a businessman, which started during his college years at the Ateneo: “I engaged in several businesses when I was still in school. I’d be going around in my backpack, selling T-shirts to my classmates,” he shares. More…

The Soul of the South

Wednesday, August 9th, 2006

Gov. On her first day in office as governor of the province of Cebu, Gwen Garcia did something that caught the eye of every reporter in the area: She climbed to the top of the Provincial Capitol building. She had heard the complaints about the leaks on the roof and she wanted to check the situation herself.

Ignoring warnings from the provincial engineer, she proceeded upstairs, stopping for a moment to shout at the reporters not to follow her to the roof, as it was dangerous.

“I guess that, in a sense, defined how my administration was going to be,” the governor muses.

As the daughter of Pablo Garcia, the outgoing governor, and as the first woman ever to assume the highest position in the province, the 50-year-old Garcia and her victory represent, as pundits say, “a major shift in the political landscape [of Cebu].” A lot of people commented on how the province spelled the difference for President Arroyo’s victory at the polls. About 7 years ago when I was still in high school I could recall that one teacher told us a trivia. A trivia that made the whole class be amaze when our teacher told us that Mactan Island is made up of coral reefs, making it the world’s largest coral island. I don’t know how true is it, but anyways this place is worth a visit.

Situated a few meters across Mactan Channel from the main island of Cebu. The island is part of a group of islands that form Mactan Islands, province of Cebu and is divided into Lapu-Lapu City and the municipality of Cordova.
