Well, here is Cebuano bloggers something to look forward to. In preparation for the Mandaue Business Month 2008 in August, the Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry recently launched the “Cebu Blog Contest”. The contest is open to all individuals, students, professionals and bloggers.

One Million Mangroves for Cebu


MANDAUE, PHILIPPINES - The Rotary Club of Mandaue North together with the Rotary International District 3860, Municipal Government of Liloan, DENR and the Coastal Resource Management will spearhead a mangrove reforestation and a coastal clean up in Liloan, Cebu on September 15, 2007 as part of Clean Up the Philippines Day and Clean Up the World Weekend Celebration.

Clean Up the Philippines Campaign Manager for the Visayas and Rotarian Mr. Dann Diez said that their aim is to plant one Million mangroves all over the Island of Cebu. More.

Mandaue Business Forum: ‘Unleashing Opportunities’

In celebration of the Charter Day Anniversary of the Mandaue City, various activities unfolded yesterday to bring out innovative entrepreneurs for the global market, thereby bringing out the best of the Mandauehanons.

Yesterday’s event, the Business Forum held at the Cebu International Convention Center gathered a crowd from different sectors such as industry, service & trade, various business support organizations, representatives from the local government units, head of offices from the public and private organizations, academe, students and other stakeholders.

Mr. Eric Mendoza, Mandaue Chamber President and Mr. Samie Lim, Philippine Chamber President gave their Welcome Adrresses.

Cebu’s Governor Gwen Garcia and Mandaue City Vice-Mayor Carlo Fortuna were also their to support and presented their plans and programs of their respective responsibilities on the said forum.

Protection of Visayan Seas lobbied

    The Philippines is the “epicenter of the richest marine biodiversity in the world,” according to a 10-year study by international marine experts.

Kent Carpenter, associate professor of biological sciences at the Old Dominion University in Virginia, USA, and Victor Springer, Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of Natural History, said the Indo-Malay-Philippine Archipelago (IMPA) has long been considered the richest marine biodiversity area in the whole world.

But Carpenter said in a Save the Seas forum at the University of Cebu that he did not expect to find the Philippines at the extreme center of this wealth.

“I was surprised because I was expecting it to be the Sulawesi-Moluccan area,” Carpenter said.

He said the central Philippines, which includes Cebu, Bohol and Iloilo, has the area with the highest “diversity” and “endemism,” which means, there are more organisms “endemic” or “exclusively native” here, he said. More…

Smedsep study cites Cebu’s potential in medical tourism

    WITH the extension of technical aid to small and medium businesses in Cebu, the German-funded Small and Medium Enterprise Development for Sustainable Employment Program (Smedsep) will focus on assisting the local medical tourism industry as a component of its value chain approach (VCA) for tourism.

“We want Visayas to catch up with Luzon,” said German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) Visa-yas coordinator Volker Steigerwald.

An initial VCA review found Cebu’s potentials to be in the health, wellness and medical tourism sectors while that of Bohol and Siquijor are in eco-tourism. More…

Mandaue Business Month set

Working closely with local government units (LGU) and promoting corporate social responsibility (CSR) are the major thrusts of the Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI).

Emma Rama, former MCCI second vice-president for external affairs, said Mandaue’s business climate would further improve with strengthened LGU-business partnership and established CSR.

Earlier, Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes expressed his full support of the chamber’s move.

In yesterday’s event, Cortes was represented by city administrator Briccio Boholst. Vice Mayor Carlo Fortuna was also present in the chamber’s MBM official launching.

“To move in one direction will make Mandaue one of the highly competitive cities of this country,” Fortuna told businessmen in his welcome message. More…

Search for outstanding police on

Kiwanis Club of Cebu announced its search for Cebu City’s Outstanding Policemen for its exemplary achievements at the White Gold House yesterday.

The award given in cooperation with the Cebu City Police Office and the Cebu City government aims to encourage policemen to perform their duties diligently and conscientiously.

Kiwanis Club of Cebu president William Medici said the club can only afford to honor a few policemen in their efforts to balance their public and private lives.

Last year, only two policemen received the award. They were Senior Inspector George Ylanan, chief of the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Bureau, and Senior Police Officer 3 Isagani Pugoy, an operative of the Theft and Robbery Section.

The annual search, which is now on its 19th year, had Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña as its special guest in Tuesday’s launching. CDN Cebu

The Southwestern University – Matias H. Aznar Memorial (SWU-MHAM) College of Medicine will hold its 53rd alumni homecoming and medical convention on Jan. 16 and 17, 2008 at the Parklane International Hotel in Archbishop Reyes Avenue, Cebu City.

Dubbed “New Frontiers in Medicine,” the event will feature the giving of recognition to the college’s outstanding alumni from 1972 until the present.

ASEAN Tourism Congress opens today at CICC

Around 300 participants including at least 30 delegations from several countries in Asia are expected to join today’s opening of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Tourism Congress at the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC).

Samuel Chioson, official of the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) and chairman for the Cebu Business Month activity, yesterday said the event would highlight Cebu as a prime economic and tourism hub.

CCCI launches Shop Cebu

CEBU Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) launches Shop aCebu, a monthlong shoppers’ festival, highlighted by a simultaneous three-day mallwide sale from June 15 to 17, with a midnight sale on June 16.

Tagged as the revival event of Tour Cebu in 2001, which was also a monthlong shoppers, tourists and diners’ festival, Shop Cebu will offer large and wide-range discounts as well as attractive deals and packages to all Metro Cebu consumers as it aims to promote greater and brisker trade and industry in the city.
