Cebu City wins CVIRAA ‘08

    Cebu City emerged as this year’s grand champion in the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association Meet (CVIRAA) after garnering 811 points to top the 15-delegation line up which saw action during the weeklong sports event at the Carlos Garcia Sports Complex, this city.

The Cebuano players continue to dominate the lead in almost all events placing Cebu province as second with 476 points.

Cebu City takes top spot in Cviraa after gold rush in swimming and athletics

THE Cebu City Niños surged ahead to the top of the standings in the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association following a gold medal rush in the swimming and athletics events yesterday in Bohol.

In athletics, the elementary and high school division collected 6 golds, three silvers and a bronze medals, while the swimmers came up with 17 gold medals.

Winning the gold medals at the track and field in the elementary division were Jezreel Cabatino in the high jump event, Melissa Abellanosa in girls shotput and Carl Malazarte in the boys 1,500 meter run. SunStar

Malapascua to host Ceva beach volleyball

IT IS about time that a big-scale beach volleyball competition be held here in Cebu.

Cebu Volleyball Association and the Cebu Provincial Government want to showcase the beaches that are perfect for the sport as they host the first Beach Volleyball Tournament Mayor’s Cup in Malapascua Island this coming Black Saturday and Easter Sunday.

Cebu to host another collegiate hoopfest

Cebuano paralympians bag 2 silvers, 2 bronzes

    CEBUANO paralympians Arnold Balais and Roselyn Ocampo won two silvers and two bronze medals each in the 4th Para Association of Southeast Asian Nation (ASEAN) Games in Nakhon Ratchasima in Thailand.

The RP Team finished in fifth place overall with 19 gold medals, 21 silvers and 21 bronze medals and fell one notch lower from its fourth place finish in the 2005 Games in Manila where the Pinoys harvested 22 golds, 42 silvers and 40 bronzes. Inq.net

Cebuana Sally Mae Siso lived up to expectations as she swept all titles available in the four-leg 2007 Malaysian junior tennis circuit after ruling both the singles and doubles event in the Langkawi International Age-Groups Tennis Championships yesterday.

Sally Mae had her day after watching her brother Niño also came up with two titles in the boys’ 14-under class.

“Daug gyud ta, pero paningot jud og kumbate si Niño,” (“Yes, we won but Niño had to work hard for it.”), said Sally Siso, the siblings’ mother and coach.

Cebu’s top female tennis player gains final in Malaysia

    Cebu’s top female junior tennis player, Sally Mae “Em-em” Siso became the first Pinoy to get a final berth in the Selangor International Junior Tennis Championships at Pikinis Sports Complex in Selangor, Malaysia.

Siso showed no mercy in beating Tijia Min 6-0, 6-0 yesterday. She will meet Theviya Selvarjoo for the title in the girls’ 14-under division.

The Filipinos’ dominance of the tournament continues as two other girls advanced to the semifinal round in their respective divisions while two boys made it to the quarterfinals.

    The ALA Gym has finally nailed the elusive world title with Donnie “Ahas” Nietes winning the vacant WBO minimumweight title via unanimous decision over the erstwhile undefeated Pornsawan Kratengdaenggym of Thailand last night at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel Grand Ballroom.
