The much-awaited 8th Motor Show International was officially opened for public last October 16 at the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC). The program started at 3:00PM with the cutting of ribbon headed by Gov. Gwen Garcia assisted by DOT Regional Dir. Dawnie Roa and PETCO Chair, Jose Luis Yulo Jr.
The 6-day exhibit (Oct.16-21) extensively displays top-gear mobiles, motorcycles, gizmos, body kits and related products, equipments and services. Apart from it, Motor Show Cebu International also manifests the Philippine’s commitment to providing earth-friendly and cost efficient hybrid and vehicles, engine improvements and fuel alternatives.

It has been said that Cebu sought to establish the 1st LRT system outside Metro Manila. How true?
A modern, efficient and reliable light rail transit (LRT)
system is now being planned for Cebu amid its rapid population growth
and economic expansion.
House Bill 310, authored by Cebu first district Rep. Eduardo Gullas,
sought to establish the province’s first LRT system to ease heavy motor
vehicle traffic in one of the country’s fastest-growing urban hubs.
“There is no question Cebu desperately needs a fast, safe,
convenient and economical LRT system,” said Gullas in an e-mailed

Cebu Pacific announced plans to accept payments for rebooking transactions via its call centre beginning 15-Aug-07.
Passengers will be able to call the 24-hour hotline to rebook services and pay for the rebooking fees using Visa or Mastercard credit cards over the phone. Cebu Pacific will also be increasing the capacity of the call centre by another 30%, beginning 01-Sep-07, to further improve the airline’s accessibility and convenience.
Cebu Pacific currently processes approximately 450 rebooking transactions per day. The ability of its system to accept payments via call centre will also help shorten queues in its ticketing offices.

Cebu Pacific (CEB) announced plans to further strengthen operations from its Cebu hub with the introduction of Cebu-Cagayan de Oro service, starting 27-Sep-07, and increased capacity for Cebu-Hong Kong services, from 13-Sep-07.
The Cebu–Cagayan de Oro service is scheduled to operate three times weekly, using CEB’s A319 aircraft. CEB’s Cebu-Hong Kong service will now be operated six times weekly, with the additional day frequency increasing its capacity for the service by 20%.

Shanghai-Cebu flights seen boosting Visayas tourism - INQUIRER.net, Philippine News for Filipinos
CEBU CITY, Philippines–The introduction of regular chartered flights between Cebu and Shanghai will open up the huge Chinese market to the local tourism industry.
Shanghai tourism attaché Gerard Panga called the China Southern Airlines’ inaugural Shanghai-Cebu flight, which landed in Cebu early Saturday morning, a breakthrough for Cebu’s tourism industry.
Shanghai, along with Beijing and Guangzhou, is among the three most economically developed regions in China, and they are considered major sources of outbound tourists.

Kaoshiung City officials offered 1,000 jobs in Taiwan to skilled Cebuano workers even as they pledged to donate 20 more Kaohsiung buses next year as an expression of their friendship with their city of Cebu.
“We will provide workers with opportunities in Taiwan,†said Hsin Shing Wu, representative of the Taiwan government to the Philippines.
Wu led yesterday a delegation of Kaoshiung City officials inside reclaimed land in the South Road Properties.

The Civil Service Commission in Central Visayas (CSC-7) announced the conduct of the Career Service Examination Paper and Pencil Test (CSE-PPT) professional and sub-professional levels on July 22 in Tagbilaran City, Bohol.
But Cebu City remains as the regular testing center.
Applicants to the examination must be Filipino citizens, at least 18 years old, of good moral character, have no criminal record, have not been discharged from military service or dismissed from any civilian position in the government, have not taken the same level of CS examination in less than three months and have not failed the same examination four times.

Cebu Pacific - Cebu Pacific orders up to 14 brand new ATR72-500 aircraft
Gokongwei owned airline, Cebu Pacific (CEB) will expand its fleet further with the acquisition of up to 14 ATR72-500 aircraft worth more than US$ 250 million.
Lance Gokongwei, CEB President and CEO explained that the move to further expand its fleet with the ATR fleet is a continued manifestation of CEB’s commitment to bring air travel closer to more Filipinos and to bring them to new destinations which CEB cannot operate to at the moment due to runway length and strength limitations.
“We are buying up to 14 brand new ATR 72-500 aircraft for our continued expansion. The order is made up of 6 firm orders, with an additional 8 options. The first 2 ATR72 aircraft are expected to arrive in early 2008 and the complete delivery is expected by 2013.†Gokongwei explained.

Business - Cebu Pacific finalizing IPO plans - INQUIRER.net
Budget carrier Cebu Pacific Air, a unit of JG Summit Holdings Inc., is finalizing plans for an initial public offering (IPO) of stock this year.
In its initial registration statement filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Cebu Pacific said it planned to offer 83.75-178.66 million new shares plus 61.9 million held by existing stockholders.
Underwriters for the offering are UBS, ING and First Metro Investment Corp.
Cebu Pacific could generate P4.6-P9.8 billion from the IPO at P56.12 a share, the lower end of the target offer price range.

Cebu’s international tourism arrivals are expected to soar even higher with the introduction of China Southern Airlines’ new twice weekly charter flights from Shanghai to Cebu next month.
In an exclusive interview with Tourism Regional Director Dawnie Roa, she informed What’s On & Expat that the airline will be first utilizing the 180-seater Airbus for the first few months since more flights will be added in the next few months.
“From two charter flights a week in June, the airline management said they will increase the frequencies to five a week by September 2007. They are that confident on the tourism assets and landmarks of Cebu,†she proudly stated.

Cebu Pacific Air Posts 57 PCT Jump in 2006 Passenger Traffic
CEBU CITY, April 26 Asia Pulse - Philippine carrier Cebu Pacific Air (CEB) has registered a 57 per cent jump in passenger traffic last year due to the increase in its domestic flights and the completion of its re-fleeting program.
Candice Alabanza Iyog, CEB vice president for marketing and product said, the airline has a total of 222 flights in and out of Cebu last year or a 46 per cent increase in the number of domestic flights in and out of the province.

Manila Standard Today — Cebu Pacific’s IPO set June
Cebu Air Inc., the airline company of business tycoon John Gokongwei, has advanced its plan to conduct an initial public offering to June this year instead of next year.
Cebu Pacific will join broadcasting giant GMA Network with its plan to conduct an IPO this June.
In separate filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the legal counsels of the two companies said their clients planned to offer their shares to the public in June and asked the commission to exempt them from the submission of an audited financial report for the first quarter of 2007.
