Jun Escario, what’s in that name?

Talented, creative, fashionista and influencing.These describes Jun Escario, a 32-year old Cebuano designer who gain national recognition and contributed to Philippine fashion. 
I used to meet this guy on one of our fashion shoots in Waterfront last month.  Models wearing his creations gracefully walks on there best cat-walk style and everyone applauded loudly and it seems everyone was in awe of his creations.  I’m not into really a fashion thing but I am quiet impressed how Jun Escario did a thing when it comes to his fashion dress designs.  He quite have been paralleled to Prada as a symbol for fashion so to speak!

Samsung Style Watch at the Waterfront: Couture Cravings

This time of the year, coinciding with Waterfront Hotels and Casinos’ 10th anniversary, a fashion feeding frenzy is happening by leading and cutting edge designers including Albert Arriba, Ivarluski Aseron, Vittorio Barba, JC Buendia, Patrice Ramos-Diaz, Rhett Eala, Jun Escario, Arcy Gayatin, Oj Hofer, Rajo laurel, Jojie Lloren, Monique Lhuillier, Dennis Lustico, Anthony Nocom, Randy Ortiz, Philip Rodriguez, Felix Yu and Minnie Yuvienco. These big names will present their haute couture collections for the Samsung Metrowear and Sposabella at the stylishly propped up Pacific Grand ballroom of the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino.

Samsung Metrowear boasts of fashion pillars from the Fashion Council of Cebu (FCC) in a highly anticipated show tomorrow, Saturday, August 25, 2006 at 7:30 in the evening. The 80 plus holiday collection of FCC includes a special Samsung portion wherein the designers created an outfit in sync with the high end mobile brand Samsung. Added to that is the group’s knack for a pulled-through collection with which all of them are schooled in the art of haute couture.

CCCI launches Shop Cebu

CEBU Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) launches Shop aCebu, a monthlong shoppers’ festival, highlighted by a simultaneous three-day mallwide sale from June 15 to 17, with a midnight sale on June 16.

Tagged as the revival event of Tour Cebu in 2001, which was also a monthlong shoppers, tourists and diners’ festival, Shop Cebu will offer large and wide-range discounts as well as attractive deals and packages to all Metro Cebu consumers as it aims to promote greater and brisker trade and industry in the city.

More people Migrate to get Jobs Abroad

This is not good for the short term, but the Filipino’s penchant to come home will augur well when these workers come back with money , expertise, and connections.

Hike in workers’ departures noted in Cebu airport - INQUIRER.net, Philippine News for Filipinos

The number of workers who left for their overseas jobs through the Mactan-Cebu International Airport went up by 9.68 percent in the first four months of 200, when compared with the same period in 2006.

Evelia Durato, officer-in-charge of the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) in Cebu, attributed the increase in deployment to the workers’ desire to improve their living standards.

SM City Cebu’s NorthWing Launching

I was privileged to attend the Launching of SM City Cebu’s newest extension building- the Northwing.

Prominent people and businessmen from Cebu attended  the occasion.  Mr. Hans Sy, President of SM Prime Holdings and Mrs. Margot Osmeña conducted an Opening and Countdown  Ceremony.  A series of fashion show from local designers were also one of the highlights of the event. 

Lots of oppurtunities and lifestyle shopping will be happening when the Northwing will open in September.  Here’s some pics to share from yesterday’s  event.

Definitive ‘Cebu’ Declarations to put Cebu in ASEAN History

The 12th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit from Jan. 10 to 15, will put the central Philippine island-province of Cebu in the 10-member nation group’s lexicon and history, a senior Philippine diplomat said.

Philippine Ambassador to Malaysia Victoriano Lecaros, Asean Summit spokesman, said a number of documents will be signed by the 10 heads of state during the summit here.

These documents, he said, will be called “Cebu Declarations.”

“There will be a Cebu Declaration on HIV-Aids, and on migrant workers, among others,” Lecaros said.

“These will form part of the permanent history and lexicon of the ASEAN,” he added.

President Roh of Korea to come to Cebu for ASEAN+3

President Roh Moo-hyun is scheduled to leave for Cebu, the Philippines, next weekend to attend a summit of 10 Southeast Asian countries and three Northeast Asian nations, according to Chong Wa Dae on Friday.

“President Roh will embark on his first overseas trip this year on Jan. 13 to attend the 10th ASEAN+3 Summit and the 2nd East Asian Summit in the Philippines,’’ Chong Wa Dae spokesman Yoon Seong-yong said in a press briefing.

Myanmar, ASEAN’s (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) most troublesome member, will likely escape strong pressure to implement democratic reform when the Southeast Asian bloc holds its 12th annual summit in Cebu this week, analysts said.

The nation has long been an embarrassment to the 10-nation bloc due to its dismal human rights record, as Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi acknowledged less than six months ago.

“The situation in Myanmar is impacting upon the image and credibility of ASEAN,” he told a meeting of its foreign ministers.

PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi will attend the 12th Asean Summit and related meetings from January 12 to 15 in Cebu, the Philippines.

The Cebu Summit which was originally scheduled to be held from December 11 to 13 2006 had to be postponed due to Typhoon Utor.

Abdullah will be accompanied by Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar, International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Rafidah Aziz, as well as senior officials from relevant ministries and agencies.
