Spanish envoy makes his first Cebu visit

Spain’s Ambassador to the Philippines, Luis Arias Romero, came to Cebu on his first visit since his arrival in the country four months ago.

He was accompanied by his wife, Soledad, and their young son, Javier Arias. The family was billeted at the Marriott Hotel and was welcomed by general manager Roy Abraham, marketing director Anne Olalo and public relations manager Joan Danao.

Ambassador Arias had wanted to visit Cebu having heard of its historical importance and impressive economic growth in the last 20 years.

He also received an invitation from Casino Español de Cebu that traditionally observes July as Spanish month.

Highlight of the celebration was the July 25 Dia de Santiago (St. James) marking the feast of Spain’s patron saint. Casino Español de Cebu has been doing this since its founding in 1920. More…

Cordova

Cordova is a coastal town in the southern part of Mactan Island. It is 7 kms. away from Lapu-Lapu City and 9 kms. away from Cebu City. The channels of Cordova is known as one of the best diving havens in the country. Cordova has a total land area of 780.38 has. bounded by Camotes Sea in the east and Bohol Strait in the south. Cebu’s Jailhouse grooves on the web

Last week, I was able to feature more htan 1,500 inmates of Cebu Provincial Detention Center (CPDC) doing the thrilller dance  as a routine at the jailhouse and it’s interesting to know that it gets positive response from the web especially You Tube savvy users.

Byron Garcia (author), who oversees the jail and introduced the dance routines last year, loaded the videos onto the Web.

“I want the prison system to learn from this,” Garcia told Reuters. “The inmates are after all human beings and the inmates after all, once inside, know that they have committed mistakes, let them enjoy their stay.”

The online audience certainly enjoys their sense of rhythm.

“I usually have some kinda witty banter. But not this time, I’m just completely speechless,” wrote one viewer on YouTube.

There’s still hope at the inside.:)  Even people inside the jail can do the creative dance steps of Michael Jackson or perhaps can do the groove of Gary V…???  Sikat ang Cebu! Sikat ang Pinoy!

What Do you say about Cebu?

Have you heard about the Magellan’s Cross?  Or the Taoist Temple?  The Sto. Niño Basilica Church?  The Bantayan Beach or the Olanggo Island?  Plantation Bay or Shangri-la Mactan Island Resort and Spa? The Cebu International COnvention Center or the Marcelo Fernan  Bridge? Or the famous Sinulog Mardigras celebration? These are only few of the major tourist destinations/attractions when you come here in Cebu.

I gathered some personal experiences that made them loved about Cebu.  Here are some stories that you wil be able to know why Cebu is a good destination for vacation, a leisure or for business.

Cathy Ongking. The fourth largest island of the Philippines, Cebu is one of the prime tourist attractions when going to the Philippines. Cebu, I discovered with amusement and wonder is a surprising paradox.

On one end, Cebu is known for its pristine white beaches where one can simply relax and enjoy the view. Cebu is also an excellent choice for scouting scuba diving spots located along the city’s surrounding area. When I went there with my cousins last year, we stayed at the Mactan Shangri-la Hotel and true enough, inside the hotel, there already boasts a spectacular view of the beach where tourists have flocked to view the breathtaking scenery either thorough parasailing, jet skiing, or simply walking around and admiring the splendor of it all. An aerial view of Cebu offers a glimpse of the next island, Bohol as well. Although many people still prefer to see the breadth of all Cebu has to offer and island hop using boats and ferries

Mic from Phoenix. The diving in Cebu is some of the best the Philippines has to offer! White sand beaches! Hotel accomodations are great as well! Nightlife there is always hopping!

Cebu is one of the most friendly places on earth, bar none! I have spent my life traveling the world and found Cebu to be like a home away from home. The people are friendly and very helpful.

From Boston,USA Visitor. people are great and hospitality.this city is incredible.many historical places and you’ll love it.the city is not so traffic compare to manila.just visit cebu and you know the answer of what i’m talking about.

Share your Cebu stories here?  Let the whole world know that Cebu is the best…Enjoy!

Boljoon: A Poem

It’s a rather obscure town, a sleepy, quiet place by the sea on the southern part of Cebu. It can hardly be considered a tourist destination, but I guess that would depend on what one’s travel preferences are.

Below is the poem by Maria Theresa Niere that describes the beauty of Boljoon.  Discover its wonder.

a town of fresh spring water that dries not
in history, legend and song it cries a lot
in this little postcard town of beauty down south
a huge sleping reptile lies at its mouth

the scenic water leaves visitor in awe
of natures’ creation, one would love to draw
the church speaks voluminous memories of old
in friendship and beauty, the people are sold

Foodtrip: Adto Na Ta! (Let’s Go!)

What do you do when you want to go out of Cebu City but your busy schedule won’t allow you to get that far? What do you do when your taste buds want something different and adventurous but your choices in the city is nothing but ordinary?
Embark on a food trip. Albeit a not so distant one.

Thirty minutes out of the city proper, or 45 minutes depending on how you want to enjoy the ride, is a perfect weekend foodtrip getaway – Liloan.

Liloan (in Cebu) is probably anice escape away from the city.  It’s basically the first logical stopover for a quick bite and trip to the loo (at Jollibee usually) at the first leg of your trip. Or, the last pit stop (for pasalubong of Titay’s Rosquillos and torta) on your last leg before you hit the city proper on your way back.

Of course people go to Liloan for the parola (lighthouse). But for the seasoned out-of-towner, Liloan is just one of those quaint towns reminding you that, alas, you’re out of Cebu City proper! One does not know that beneath its homely charm is a treasure trove of gustatory delights waiting to be discovered.
