Asean Business Summit in Cebu launched

The ASEAN Business and Investment Summit was formally launched on October 22 during the Closing Rites of the 32nd Philippine Business Conference, Engr. Junie Andrade, governor for the Visayas Area of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, informed.

The Asean Business and Investment Summit is an event held immediately before the annual ASEAN and East Asian Leaders Summit. Philippines’ Cebu Pacific eyeing 10 additional Airbus planes, more Asian routes

Low-cost carrier Cebu Pacific Air Inc is considering acquiring more Airbus narrow-bodied planes as it seeks to fly to more destinations in Asia, the company’s chief executive said.

‘Beyond the (two) new planes that will come in January and February next year, we are considering perhaps 10 more Airbus A319s or A320s in three to four years starting October 2007. It will have to be narrow bodied,’ Lance Gokongwei told reporters. More…

Cebu City — Maximizing the presence of foreign visitors in Cebu , travel agencies are offering pre and post tour packages for Asean Summit delegates wanting to unwind before or after the event.

Tourism Usec. Phineas Alburo disclosed that the National Organizing Committee for the 12th Asean Summit with private sector arrangement is coming out with two packages selling pre and post tours as part of promoting the country’s tourist attractions. A group of families in Sitio Tambisan, Barangay Tisa in Cebu City is able to make ends meet, and more, by supplying exporters and local stores jewelry made of shells.

Her family started a business making jewelry and fashion accessory components out of shells in 1986.

Nelia said the idea for the business came from her husband, Uldarico, who was a shellcraft worker during his student days. More…

Cebu Pacific resumes Clark flight operations

The Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC) has announced that the first flight of the low-fare leader Cebu Pacific (CEB) is slated to arrive at the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport (DMIA) on October 12.

According to CIAC President and Chief Executive Officer Victor Jose Luciano, CEB has undertaken a calculated management decision in reviving its services at DMIA.

The CEB management’s decision to fly the Cebu-Clark route is also reportedly backed up by statistics on the travel patterns of domestic travelers plus the fact that DMIA was the most convenient airport among travelers going to Central Luzon and the rest of the North. More…

Cebu’s furniture makers to display works in CICC

SOME 25 furniture companies have committed to voluntarily furnish the rooms of the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC) and Shangri-la’s Mactan Island Resort and Spa for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) summit this December.

“It will highlight the best of Cebu’s furniture industry,” said Cebu Furniture Industries Foundation (CFIF) member unit head Marlene Bedia.

CIDA to focus funding assistance to SMEs in Cebu

Cebu City (20 September) — The Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) through its Canadian Executive Service Organization-Business Advisory Project (CESO-BAP), wants to focus its funding assistance to small and medium enterprises in Cebu this year.

CESO-BAP country project manager, Tim Moiket said, “In the seven years of operation, the project has been focusing on SMEs in other provinces in Central Visayas, except Cebu. We wanted to focus then on provinces that were lagging behind. So we concentrated in Oriental Negros, Bohol and Siquijor because we felt that the SMEs in Cebu were already developed. But this time, CESO-BAP will focus on assisting SMEs in Cebu.” CESO-BAP is asking manufacturers and exporters in Cebu to link with the SMEs in other provinces through outsourcing and sub-contracting, Moiket added.
