China’s Foreign Policy can be divided ito Policy:

1949-1978 - china’s foreign policy was focused on survival.

1979-present - development, primarily economic modernization.

Oct 25, 1971 - general assembly of UN passed a resolution to restore China’s entry into United Nations.

During the start of 1970s, there were only 64 countries with diplomatic relations with china, and bcame 113 coutnries by 1980. Now 169 countries have diplomatic relationswith China.

Among themajor powers, only France had diplomatic relations with communist china, and they did that in 1964.

4 major components of the China’s Foreign Policy:

1.) relationships with major world power.  Need to have stable relations with them.YOu need a peaceful environment to grow economically.

2.) relationship with the neighbors.  we want our neighbors to be stable.  we want our neighbors to be rich.  We need excellent cooperation with our neighbors.

3.) relationship with the developing countries.   Populations of this is large maybe 85% of the overwhelming majority of the population.

4.) multilateral diplomacy.

Peace. development and cooperation .  Goalls of Chinese Foreign Affairs policy.

5 principles of

1.) mutual respect.

2.) non mutual aggression.

3.) non mutual interference for each other internal affairs.

4.) mutual beneifts

5.) peaceful coexistence.

Our interests outweigh our differences.

( what we need to work out if we know that it is inevitable ( and all signs point to your success).

1989Hide your capability and wait for your time.   the important thing that china policy is based on deng’s issue that there should be no confrontation with the US.

The tendency of the united States to pull its weight around, but it is not in the interest for China to do it.

The bilateral trade with Japan is about $185 billion per year.  There are probably around 10 million chinese that works with Japanese firms in china, and there were over 4.2 million visitors on Japan and China last 2005.
