I was happy to note that Business Opportunities and Ideas site has collated a report called the top business blogs worldwide, and based on its studies on Alexa rankings as well as Technorati ( 2 of the more known web tracking sites) have declared my blog ( www.ngkhai.net/bizdrivenlife) as number 64.

Of course, it was not good that he did not do the study earlier. I keep track of my web statistics, and a lot of the authority or rank that these sites confer pertains to traffic the last six months. I got quite a boost because the blog was chosen as the best Philippine business blog back in March. However, this boost is not apparent already starting September. If it was studied earlier, my computations would have put me as the top 51st.

Anyhow for all the hullabaloo about blogs, how sustainable is it? Is it here to stay? If you remember Geocities, where it was a fad to create your own homepage, or Blue Mountain Arts where for a time, we were getting electronic greeting cards left and right? Even Skype , although still widely used, is perceived by its buyer E-bay as falling short of expectations. For a while, Friendster back in 2004 was the world’s leading social networking site, but lately have eclipsed to about tenth place ( though it is still number 1 in the Philippines) by My Space and Facebook. 1.5 percent of Facebook was recently bought by Microsoft for $240 million, which effectively means that the company was worth more than $15 billion dollars!

I have been blogging for 3 years now, but I know people who blog for a few weeks, then stopped. Is it a fad? So far, not only some of the famous people, like Britney Spears or Jackie Chan, or politicians like King Sihanouk, or CEOs have blogs, and maintain them ( although it is debated whether they really write their own blogs) , but many of the blogs have been growing strong. It does look like blogs might stay here for a while.

So I write my thoughts on my blog several times a week, and also write for the newspaper and other magazines regularly. People I regularly meet always ask me the same question – where do you get the sources of the things that you write? I generally have the same answer – I read a lot. In fact, I regularly go over 4 to 5 papers a day, plus a few hundred articles a week from over one hundred blogs and news sites.

Some people have expressed interest in what I read, and in what I find interesting, so I have put that into the blog as well. I classified and tagged interesting articles according to five categories: General Interest and Entrepreneurship, Technology News and Updates, Software news and Outsourcing, Latest on Gadget News, as well as Humor /Offbeat news.

So in my blog, you will not only find the things I write about, but links to dozens of articles everyday that I find interesting about the above topics.

So much for blogs worldwide, how about the blogs in the Philippines? You will think I am biased, but there are many good bloggers in the Philippines, and I have my own selection also. In fact, just a few days ago, I compiled my own selections of Philippine blogs and put them into www.philippinebloggers.com On this site, people will be able to read the latest news and blog updates from Philippine writers, and they can also rate them. I hope this will engender an interest in blogging especially in Cebu, and for those who already blog, you might want to get listed there in the site for free.
